Altec will soon have a USB version of its most popular speaker for travel, the Lansing Orbit USB.

The new speaker will be powered by a USB and allows those with a laptop or netbooks to get a better audio experience while on the go and watching videos or listening to music.

The Altec Lansing Orbit USB resembles other models from the company that are close in appearance with a round shape that is capable of producing 360 degree sound. It also comes equipped with a retractable stand so that listeners can choose how to direct the sound of their music.

Sound distortion from the little device is also kept at a minimum due to its aluminium and composite build.

Those who like extra features should also enjoy the little nylon carrying case that comes with the USB s so that the cable can be neatly wrapped up and stored for travel from a carabineer clip.

Since the device is built to be simple to use with decent sound quality, it also may be a nice buy for those who frequently move throughout their home and hate messing with peripheral cables.

This budget 23-inch widescreen LCD has solid image quality and useful ports, but surprisingly no USB-in.
By - Kalpana Ettenson, PC World

The shiny, black Asus VH236H showed good image quality and smooth video in our subjective tests, making it a nice, well-priced monitor for entertainment-centric buyers. We also saw fine, easy-to-read text on both black and white backgrounds. Photographs generally looked lively and had realistic color, though colors in a few photos appeared slightly dull. The VH236H also handled our motion tests well, showing little visible fluttering. Its solid performance in those tests makes this monitor a good choice for gaming and other motion-intensive tasks.

This monitor hosts a multitude of ports on the rear, including HDMI, DVI, VGA, and audio-in, plus an S/PDIF jack. All are clearly labeled and easy to access, so plugging in cables is a breeze. The VH236H comes with a built-in speaker, which is adequate for basic office tasks but not for music or movies. Another noticeable shortcoming is the absence of any USB ports.

Five buttons on the front of the monitor manage the on-screen display, which is fairly easy to navigate. The OSD includes an array of brightness modes, such as scenery, standard, theater, and night view. A separate brightness control enables you to make more-minute adjustments. The display tilts but cannot swivel.

The VH236H has a 1920-by-1080-pixel native 1080p high-definition resolution; and its admirable performance in our motion tests suits it for movies and other forms of entertainment. Its $239 price tag makes it an even more appealing option in the current new monitor marketplace.

I love USB gadgets, and I own several of these toys because they’re fun. Seriously, if you don’t have one, then you should get one and I’m sure you will be pleased with what you will get. Well, here is another very interesting, but in the same time weird USB gadget. This is the USB Chainsaw which will scare the shht out your friends’ pants. The USB chainsaw is called i.Saw, but you can call it iSaw without the annoying dot in its name tag.

The sad part is that we don’t know if this is a hoax as the USB chainsaw website is new, and there are no facts to certify that you won’t be fooled. The iSaw is now available for pre-order and it will ship sometime this fall for only $59.99 + shipping fee. We don’t really know if this chainsaw is lethal but the USB chainsaw is made of tough plastic and lightweight metal alloy. What does this mean? That with a “special” technique it could get you killed (probably if someone hits you in the head with it).

I’m sure that the manufacturer is using high technology to develop the i.Saw as a lot of power is required to power a chainsaw. Well, I hope this is now a hoax, and if you’d like something to scare your buddies then pre-order the iSaw here.

Recharging peripherals on the road is easily the bane of our traveling life. An mp3 player or cell phone without batteries can turn an already hectic travel day into an excruciating death march filled with screaming children on airplanes and missed connections on the ground, but carrying different chargers for each peripheral is just outright inconvenient.

One solution is to carry around a rechargeable li-on battery, and preferably one that’s not too heavy. We’ve reviewed several such options in the past.

The latest travel battery vying for your attention and your plugs is the Callpod Fueltank. The battery can charge two different USB devices at the same time and has an indicator light in the center showing overall capacity. Even so, the entire thing still weighs less than 8 ounces.

The writeup promises that the Fueltank can recharge peripherals multiple times without needing to be refueled. We couldn’t confirm that last part, but if it really has 7 times the capacity of an average cell phone battery then that’s certainly plausible.

You’ll obviously need cables to connect your devices to the battery’s mini-USB port. Callpod helpfully sells specialized ones direct. You should also check out our guide to minimizing your travel cables.

The Callpod Fueltank is currently selling for $49.95 on Amazon, a $10 discount off the retail price; a small price to pay for de-cluttering our carry-on.
